How Does Smoking Affect Your Skin?

Lighting up the end of a cigarette not only harms your lungs, but it ages your skin also weakens its own defenses. It causes skin cancer, hyperpigmentation, and in some cases, psoriasis.

Moreover, it is common knowledge that smoking impacts not just the smoker but also individuals who don't smoke. The fumes may affect the skin of these sitting while also making them susceptible to respiratory problems.

Harmful effects of smoking on skin include:

Smoking deprives the skin of oxygen, speeding up the aging process, and tiring vitamins required by the body to cure. According to research, a smoker's body requires more time to heal, and this also includes skin regeneration and repair, eczema, psoriasis, and much more. Additionally, it causes stretch marks as nicotine found in cigarettes causes collagen and elastin to crumble.

Second, to UV damage, smoking activates skin cancer amongst others like lung, mouth, and throat cancer. It hurts skin tissue and impairs cell development. The impact is slow but inevitable. In accordance with the findings of the World Health Organisation, the 10 global causes of death in 2016 stated that lower respiratory infections stand at the 4th position.

1. Diabetes

Smoking promotes reduction of appetite, making one eat at irregular intervals while mostly binging on easy-to-make fatty foods. This unhealthy lifestyle may lead to diabetes and other gastrointestinal disorders. Most cases of acne and hyperpigmentation are linked to indigestion or illnesses which the body was trying to fight. And this gets worse when someone is attempting to stop.

2. Hypersensitivity

Smoking hydrates the skin, making it vulnerable to heat and outside pressures. Nicotine, while departing yellow stains on the skin and teeth, also delays wound healing, which results in bacterial infection as well as post-acne pigmentation. The rules here are the same as UV damage, but unlike the sun, you have a decision to avoid it! :)

3. Pale and Uneven Skin

Dark lips, tender cheeks, and wrinkled chin isn't something everybody wants to see in the mirror. Nicotine keeps you awake like coffee, and if you smoke during the night, you can't sleep, which leaves you with Netflix and dark circles. Yes, non-smokers can't sleep as well, but they are not smoking!

Smoking leaves a stink on your skin and body, which makes it uncomfortable for individuals sitting next to you. Additionally, it raises heat levels making you sweat twice than usual. It also gives rise to acne or boils inflammations in case you've got sensitive skin.

4. Side-effects of Quitting

Why start if trying to quit will give you a difficult time? Nausea, irritable syndrome, constipation, acne, and mental lockdown are some of the side-effects that aren't worth losing your sanity over.
